Fitting into the Ministry Development Plan for Camp Cerro de Luz

All camp sites need to be developed with a projected pre-determined camper capacity, as a function of;

a)     sustainability of the property without long-term damage ensuring continued use for the future

b)     purpose and vision.

Maximum number of people, determined by purpose of site, will in turn determine the needed infrastructure such as building size, type and location and programme. For this reason, the existing property of Cerro de Luz needs to be expanded to accommodate future needs, as well as the purchase of other sites to meet the overall vision of the ministry.

Site One – Cerro de Luz – Camp and Conference Centre

Developed as an international leadership training and conference centre and childrenŐs camp with limited adventure activities. (see Appendix 2 for master Plan)

Site Two – Mountain Property – A Model of Environmental Stewardship

Close by – approximately 15-20 minute drive from Cerro de Luz, but in the mountains, removed from residential areas. This site will be more rustic in design, with an emphasis on knowing God through environmental education and stewardship. It will serve as a centre for the schools program, running environmental science camps where studies can be done on property. The site can be developed with the following infrastructure to be incorporated into the programme and educational experience.

  1. Working farm
    1. Possibilities for food provision

                                               i.     Orchards – several kinds of fruit,

ii.     Vegetables - in greenhouses for control and all year production

iii.     Chickens for eggs and meat

iv.     Pigs to eat biodegradable food waste from the camp and then can be used as meat.

                                              v.     Milk and other dairy products from cows

    1. Programme Applications

                                               i.     Independence from global economy and fluctuating rates – an alternative supplement for food provisions needed in the camp

ii.     Micro-enterprise project to include community

iii.     Excess can be sold to community as local produce, therefore financially supporting the camp

iv.     An example of stewardship of GodŐs creation, and can be used for teaching environmental ethics as mandated in scripture.

  1. Self –sustainable in energy and waste management.

a.     Working with Messiah College in the US to develop an alternative energy programme for the camp.

b.     Black and Grey waters can be treated in a series of greenhouses, which also work for food production.

Site Three - Lake front Property, Lago Yohoa - Expedition Base

Approximately 35 minutes from Cerro de Luz, Lago Yohoa and its surrounding area offer unparalleled opportunities for expeditions and skills training. Canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and kayaking can be added to the number of adventure activities offered by Union Biblica Camps. The site is ideal as a training and preparation base for hiking, canoeing or mountain biking expeditions to the surrounding mountains and rivers. Evangelism and discipleship programmes through adventure can be offered internationally, providing a valuable source of income to help subsidize the other two sites to bring more Honduran kids to camp.
